Error description: You have downloaded a virtual machine from a vSphere instance via ovf export and it won’t start due to:

Bluscreen: SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED

Solution: Newer version of VMware Workstation does not enable the High precision timer in the the virtual maschine config by default. Close the VMware Workstation, open the VM’s vmx config file and add the following line:

hpet0.present = "TRUE"


Open the Workstation try to start the virtual machine.

Update: Another possible solution could be that in newer versions of the Workstation the Windows Hyper V features must be enabled.
